Discute-se o processo de elaboração dos conceitos fundamentais em matemática.Os estudos foram desenvolvidos com alunos classi…cados como tendo necessidades especiais.
Neste artigo é relatada a experiência com uma aluna cega, bem como, com nove estudantes
classi…cados como retardados mentais, integrantes de uma classe especial. Os alunos estavam
em diferentes estágios de aprendizagem. O objetivo foi fazer os estudantes consolidarem
sucessivas zonas de desenvolvimento proximal. Quantidades, medidas e operações
matemáticas foram desenvolvidas através de mediações, usando-se materiais especiais. Os

cos em situações bastante elaboradas de ensino e aprendizagem.
