O foco do trabalho consiste no auxílio à formalização de uma cooperativa de artesanato, por demanda espontânea de uma Associação de Moradores ao Programa do Mestrado Profissional em Propriedade Intelectual e Transferência de Tecnologia para Inovação (PROFNIT-Unicentro), cujo objetivo deste relato consistiu em descrever a parte inicial deste processo, qual seja, analisar o contexto do negócio a partir da ferramenta Matriz SWOT. Foram desenvolvidas análises para fundamentar a tomada de decisão, sendo analisados pontos fortes e fracos, ameaças e oportunidade (internos e externos). A coleta de dados procedeu-se a partir de documentos, por observações e entrevistas, já a análise de dados se viabilizou pela análise documental e análise de conteúdo. O principal resultado foi a construção da Matriz SWOT, com análise conjunta e apontamentos de possíveis soluções aos pontos identificados, dentre as quais se destacam a necessidade de formalização (oportunidade), visto que já existem pontos fortes (Know-how, parcerias estabelecidas e prospectadas, etc.).
