A função de compras tem fundamental importância dentro de uma instituição, seja pública ou privada, e não está restrita apenas ao ato de comprar, mas de todo o processo logístico, incluindo a sua armazenagem até o seu consumo final. Este artigo tecnológico objetivou diagnosticar e propor mudanças nos processos de compras e de almoxarifado de uma Instituição de Ensino Público Federal com foco nos procedimentos internos e na comunicação entre os setores. A metodologia utilizada foi a de entrevistas com o gestor da unidade e análise documental e empírica dos documentos e procedimentos. Foram identificadas situações que necessitam de melhoria tanto preventivamente, quanto corretivamente. Dessa forma, foram propostas intervenções nos processos de compras e de almoxarifado objetivando compras mais assertivas e uma gestão de estoque mais eficiente. Concluiu-se que com pequenas modificações nos procedimentos os resultados são satisfatórios.
