A partir de 2010, com a implantação da Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos (PNRS), através da Lei 12.305/10, está havendo no Brasil uma nova dinâmica na forma de condução da gestão de resíduos sólidos urbanos. A responsabilidade pela gestão, que antes era somente do município, passa a ser compartilhada com todos os atores envolvidos na manipulação de resíduos, desde a fabricação até a destinação final. A Lei estabeleceu ainda que os outros entes federados, união e estados, façam parte do processo de gestão dos municípios através de apoios técnico e financeiro para viabilização de projetos ambientais, sobretudo os que privilegiem ações compartilhadas. Nesses termos, o Paraná implantou em 2013 o Plano Estadual para a Gestão Integrada e Associada de Resíduos Sólidos Urbanos (PEGIRSU). Esse plano tem por objetivo auxiliar os municípios na busca de resolução dos problemas ambientais diversos. Para operacionalização do plano, os 399 municípios do Paraná foram divididos em 20 regiões administrativas, com investimentos e ações planejadas para cada uma das regiões. O Objetivo deste estudo é analisar as práticas de gestão de resíduos sólidos, desde a implantação da PNRS em 2010, até 2016, em uma das regiões contempladas no PEGIRSU, a região 17. Essa região conta com 15 municípios, sendo a maioria com menos de 15.000 habitantes. A metodologia amparou-se em pesquisa exploratória com abordagem qualitativa. Os resultados iniciais indicam que no período pesquisado houve significativo avanço em todas as etapas de gestão, como coleta seletiva, destinação final e eliminação de lixões a céu aberto.
