Atividade antimicrobiana do óleo essencial e extratos de folhas e frutos de pitanga (Eugenia uniflora L.): Uma revisão

A pitanga (Eugenia Uniflora L.) é um fruto muito apreciado no Brasil. Suas folhas e frutos são usados na medicina popular principalmente como hipotensor, hipoglicemiante, no tratamento de infecções e intoxicações alimentares como salmonelose. Além disso, estudos têm relatado atividade antimicrobiana de extratos e óleos essenciais tanto das folhas como dos frutos contra diversos micro-organismos de grande importância para a saúde humana, como por exemplo bactérias das espécies Staphylococcus aureus e Listeria monocytogenes e fungos como Candida albicans, sendo esta atividade associada a presença de compostos químicos resultantes de seu metabolismo secundário. Este trabalho apresenta uma revisão sobre atividade antimicrobiana da pitanga frente a diferentes espécies microbianas, inclusive patogênicas, fornecendo informações sobre a aplicação de óleos essenciais e extratos das folhas e dos frutos desta planta como agentes antimicrobianos.
